Today’s Workout of the Day at the Academy of Self Defense in Santa Clara is all about grit and determination. The GRIT Warrior workout might look straightforward, but don’t let its simplicity fool you—it’s a serious challenge that will leave you stronger, tougher, and ready for anything. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced athlete, this WOD will test your endurance, strength, and mental toughness.

The Workout: GRIT Warrior (2 Rounds for Time)

This WOD alternates between upper body strength and explosive power. The combination of push-ups and kettlebell swings works your chest, shoulders, triceps, core, and posterior chain. Here’s the sequence:

  1. 8 Push-Ups
  2. 20 Kettlebell Swings
  3. 6 Push-Ups
  4. 20 Kettlebell Swings
  5. 4 Push-Ups
  6. 20 Kettlebell Swings
  7. 2 Push-Ups
  8. 20 Kettlebell Swings

Complete this entire sequence twice for time. It’s a race against the clock, but don’t sacrifice form for speed—good technique ensures you get the most out of every rep.

Modifications for All Fitness Levels

Push-Ups:

  • Beginners: Perform push-ups on your knees or elevate your hands on a sturdy surface like a bench or box.
  • Advanced: Add a clap at the top of your push-ups or do hand-release push-ups for added difficulty.

Kettlebell Swings:

  • Beginners: Use a lighter kettlebell or substitute with a dumbbell swing.
  • Advanced: Increase the weight of the kettlebell or perform American swings (overhead) for an extra challenge.
