Review of Fundamental Combat Tactics (HEAT 1)

I recently completed the HEAT 1 Combat Tactics course and couldn’t be more impressed with the quality of instruction, professionalism, and realism this class offers. Whether you’re completely new to tactical training or looking to solidify your foundational skills, this four-day course delivers far beyond expectations.

The course structure is logical and well-paced. The first two days on the flat range provide an excellent grounding in firearm safety, rifle zeroing, and fundamental marksmanship. The instructors were clear, patient, and focused heavily on safety and proper technique, which was reassuring, especially for those without a military or law enforcement background.

By Days 3 and 4, training on the tactical ranges was a major step up—and incredibly rewarding. Working in two-man and four-man teams with live fire and reactive targets added a level of intensity and realism that’s hard to find elsewhere. The exercises are immersive and give a real sense of how to function as part of a tactical team under stress. Communication, movement, and decision-making all become critical, and the instructors provided valuable feedback after each drill.

The use of electronic pop-up targets, varied terrain, and realistic threat scenarios made this feel less like a class and more like a mission rehearsal. It’s clear that this course is designed not only to teach skills but to prepare you mentally and physically for real-world application.

Overall, HEAT 1 is an outstanding introductory tactical course that builds confidence, sharpens marksmanship, and lays a strong foundation for more advanced training. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about personal defense or professional-level preparedness.
